How It Works

Calmstone has a built-in infrared temperature sensor to assess the blood flow to your extremities. The more regulated your blood flow is, the warmer your hands become. You can advance through the colors in its unique display to gauge your progress by using different relaxation techniques. As you focus on calming your nervous system, you'll notice the lights change colors in a clockwise direction.

What we've described above is also known as
thermal biofeedback. When your body is relaxed and your nervous system is at ease, your blood vessels naturally expand, facilitating better blood circulation. Conversely, heightened tension and stress can lead to constricted blood vessels and reduced circulation.

Consistent use of the Calmstone allows you to train both your mind and body, fostering deeper levels of relaxation and focus. Ultimately, this leads to a heightened sense of calmness, centeredness, and control in your daily life.

The Research

Calmstone utilizes thermal biofeedback. Thermal biofeedback works by using sensors to measure your skin temperature and provides feedback on your body's thermal response. This can help you learn how to activate the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS). The parasympathetic nervous system is responsible for controlling the body's rest and digest response, which helps to calm the body and reduce stress levels. Thermal biofeedback involves measuring skin temperature, which can be an indicator of the body's level of relaxation.


When your body is in a relaxed state, their blood vessels dilate, allowing more blood flow to the skin and resulting in an increase in skin temperature. Conversely, when your body is under stress, their blood vessels constrict, reducing blood flow to the skin and causing a decrease in skin temperature.


By using thermal biofeedback, individuals can learn to recognize and control their body's physiological responses to stressors. Through the use of relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing or progressive muscle relaxation, individuals can increase their skin temperature and activate their PNS, leading to a decrease in stress and tension in the body.
